I will always remember sitting down with Mike to ask for his and Janet’s blessing before asking his daughter, Liz to marry me. While that can be a nerve-wracking experience for any potential son-in-law, the intimidation-factor was probably amplified due to the fact that his office was adorned with swords, pistols, knives and other military memorabilia that he had been given to commemorate various accomplishments and events during his service in the Army. However, in contrast to the decor, he did not have a sharp edge welcoming me to the family. He was always supportive, encouraging and kind. Our whole family will miss him and remember him always.
